3-seat sofa $108.90 ($99 + GST) · Mattress $75.90 ($69 + GST) with another service
Upholstery Cleaning in Canberra
Our upholstery cleaning service in Canberra covers fabric sofas, couches, lounges, armchairs and mattresses. Send a photo of each piece and we reply with a fixed price, GST included. We check the fabric care code before anything gets wet and tell you which marks will lift and which won't.
The three questions we get asked most before a booking.
How much does upholstery cleaning cost?
An average three-seat sofa is $108.90 ($99 + GST). A mattress is $75.90 ($69 + GST) when booked with another service, and a mattress-only job has a $187 minimum ($170 + GST). Armchairs, modular lounges and larger pieces are quoted from a photo, and you get the full price before we start.
How do I get a quote?
Email a photo of each piece, with any marks visible, to info@aussieduocleaningservice.com.au, or text it to 0414 000 221. We reply with a fixed price, GST included.
Can you clean my couch if the tag says S or X?
S, yes, with a dry solvent method that is gentler and less deep than extraction. X, no liquid at all. We can vacuum and brush an X fabric, but any wet clean risks damaging it, and we will say so.
A lounge collects more than a carpet does. Skin oils, food, pet hair, sweat and dust settle into the seat cushions and the arms, and because the fabric is against your skin every day, it shows sooner. Most fabric sofas can be brought back with a proper clean. The catch is that "proper" depends entirely on what the fabric is.
Get a quote from photos. Take a photo of each piece, with any marks visible and the care tag if you can find it. Then email your photos to info@aussieduocleaningservice.com.au or text them to 0414 000 221. We reply with a fixed price, GST included.
Start with the tag under the cushion
Nearly every upholstered piece has a small sewn-in tag, usually under a seat cushion or on the frame. It carries a one- or two-letter code set by the fabric maker after testing, and it tells anyone cleaning the piece what is safe to use:
W – water-based cleaning is safe. This covers most polyester, nylon and synthetic blends, and it is what allows us to use hot water extraction, the same principle we use on carpet.
S – solvent only. Water can leave rings, browning or shrinkage that cannot be reversed. Often silk, some rayons and some wool blends.
WS – either method, tested first on a hidden spot.
X – vacuum or brush only. No liquid of any kind.
We read the code on every piece before we start. If the tag is missing, we identify the fibre ourselves and test a hidden patch rather than guess. This is the step that separates a safe clean from a ruined sofa, and it is why a hire machine or a supermarket foam is a gamble on anything other than a clearly marked W fabric.
How we clean fabric furniture
For W and WS fabrics we use low-moisture hot water extraction with the truck-mounted Sapphire Scientific 370SS that stays in the van, and a portable unit for apartments where the hose cannot reach. Upholstery holds far less water than carpet and has padding underneath, so we run the tool with less moisture and finish with dry passes.
The professional standard for upholstery, IICRC S300, says pieces should dry as quickly as possible and gives six hours as the target. Drying time depends on the fabric, the airflow and the weather. In a Canberra winter, when daytime highs sit around 12 degrees, a sofa can take most of a day. Running the heating with a window cracked open helps more than people expect.
S-coded fabrics get a dry solvent clean and X-coded fabrics are vacuumed and brushed only, as explained in the methods below. Velvet, chenille and other pile fabrics are groomed as they dry so the nap sets evenly.
Mattresses
We clean mattresses the same way, with low moisture and thorough dry passes so the foam or springs are not left damp. A mattress is $75.90 ($69 + GST) when you book it with another service, such as a sofa clean, a carpet clean or an end of lease clean. Strip the bed before we arrive and let it dry fully before making it up again.
Who it suits
A lounge that has not been cleaned in a year or more and looks dull on the seats and arms
Homes with pets, where hair and dander have worked into the weave
Households managing dust mite allergy. The National Asthma Council Australia lists upholstered furniture among the soft furnishings dust mites live in, and recommends removing the allergen and reducing breeding areas for people with a confirmed allergy. Extraction removes the loose material a vacuum leaves behind; it is one part of a routine, not a cure.
Furnished rentals at the end of a lease, where sofas and mattresses have to go back in the condition they came
Offices, waiting rooms and hospitality seating, done outside business hours
If something isn't right
Before we leave, we check every piece with you. If anything isn't right, we re-clean it on the same day. This covers the pieces and marks in your quote. It doesn't cover the limits we point out before we start, such as sun fading, dye transfer, ink or stains set into the foam, because those are damage rather than dirt.
Between professional cleans
The Victorian Government's Better Health Channel advises vacuuming upholstered furniture weekly, including the seams. Blot spills straight away rather than rubbing, and leave a stubborn mark alone until you have checked the tag. The wrong product on the wrong fabric turns a stain into permanent damage. For step-by-step home cleaning, see our guide on how to clean a fabric couch. If allergies are a concern, read our guide on how to get rid of dust mites.
Every piece is checked for its W, S, WS or X code and a hidden patch is tested before we clean the visible areas. Guessing is how sofas get ruined.

Truck-mounted equipment we own
A Sapphire Scientific 370SS stays in the van, so only the hose comes inside. Stronger vacuum means less moisture is left in the padding. We also carry a portable unit for apartments where the hose cannot reach.

Every job photographed
Before and after photos with a numbered job label in the shot, on every piece. You get an honest record of the starting condition.

We tell you what will not come out
Sun fading, dye transfer, ink and stains set into the foam are damage rather than dirt. We check before starting and say so upfront.

Same-day satisfaction guarantee
Before we leave, we check every piece with you. If anything isn't right, we re-clean it on the same day.

Explore our comprehensive range of specialised upholstery cleaning solutions, tailored to meet the unique needs of your home or business.
Six steps on every piece. The first one is the one most people skip, and it is the one that matters.
1
Tag and fibre check
We find the care code under the cushion or on the frame. If it is missing, we identify the fibre ourselves. This decides which method is safe.
2
Before photos with a job label
We photograph the piece before we start, with a numbered job label in the shot, so you have an honest record of the starting condition.
3
Test a hidden spot
A small patch on the back or underside is cleaned first to check the colour holds and the fabric reacts well before we touch the visible areas.
4
Pre-treat arms, seats and marks
Body oils on the arms and headrest, and any spots, are treated first and left to work. This is what lifts the greying that a plain rinse leaves behind.
5
Extraction or solvent clean
The full clean using the method the code allows, with extra dry passes so as little moisture as possible stays in the padding.
6
Groom, after photos and walkthrough
Pile fabrics are groomed so the nap dries evenly. We photograph the same areas again and check the result with you before we leave.
Which method we use, and why
Hot water extraction (W and WS fabrics)
A fabric-safe solution is worked into the fibre and a hand tool pulls the water and soil back out. Low moisture, finished with dry passes. This is the deep clean and suits most synthetic and blended fabrics.
Dry solvent cleaning (S fabrics)
For fabrics that cannot take water, such as silk and some rayon or wool blends. Gentler and slower, and it does not flush the fabric the way extraction does, so heavy soiling improves rather than disappears.
Vacuum and brush only (X fabrics)
No liquid at all. We remove loose soil, hair and dust with vacuum and a soft brush. If a mark on an X fabric needs more than that, we tell you honestly that cleaning it risks the fabric.
What upholstery cleaning removes well
Body oils and greying on arms and seatsThe dark, shiny patches where hands and heads rest. Pre-treated before the main clean.
Food and drink spillsCoffee, tea, wine and most food marks, provided they have not sat for months.
Pet hair, dander and most fresh accidentsExtraction pulls out what a vacuum leaves behind in the weave.
What cleaning cannot fix
Sun fading on arms and backs near windows — the dye has goneDye transfer from jeans, throws or cushions — sometimes reducible, never guaranteedInk and permanent marker — usually permanent on fabricOld stains that have soaked into the foam — surface cleaning cannot reach themFabric already damaged by the wrong DIY product — rings and browning are not stains

It depends on the fabric, the airflow and the weather. The upholstery standard, IICRC S300, gives six hours as the target. In a Canberra winter, when houses stay closed up, it can take most of a day. Running the heating with a window slightly open makes a real difference. Sit on it once it is dry to the touch.
S-coded fabrics are cleaned with a dry solvent method. It is safe for the fabric but less deep than extraction, so heavy soiling improves rather than disappears. X-coded fabrics cannot take any liquid; we vacuum and brush them and tell you honestly if a mark cannot be treated without risk.
We test a hidden patch on every piece before cleaning the visible areas. If the colour moves or the fabric reacts, we stop and talk to you before going further.

It helps as part of a routine. Extraction removes the loose material a vacuum leaves behind, but it is not a cure, and weekly vacuuming between cleans still matters.
Move anything on or around the piece and give us clear access to the front and sides. We bring the hose in from the van, so a path to the door helps. You do not need to be home if you would rather not be.
Yes. If the sofas and mattresses came with the property, agents often expect them back clean. We provide a receipt on every job. Book the upholstery with your [end of lease clean](/services/end-of-lease-cleaning/) so it is all done on the same visit.
